Asian Aviation Centre of Excellence Sdn Bhd (AACE) has trained all of AirAsia’s workforce, and a memorandum of understanding has been signed on 3rd August 2015 with the Astronautical Association of Malaysia (AstroX) at the AACE’s state of the art training centre today to begin a collaboration with AACE to provide regular simulator centre visits to participants from AstroX.
This initiative is designed to inspire and develop interest in science, particularly aviation, amongst the student members of the Astronautics Club Malaysia who will be visiting AACE. The Astronautics Club Malaysia was launched in January 2015 with participation from twenty-seven schools within the Klang Valley and has grown to over a thousand members since the beginning of the year. Membership will be open to all primary schools nationwide from 2016 with a target of recruiting 100,000 members by year 2018.
The visits to the simulator are designed to expose school children aged between 10 to 12 to the world of aviation and science, underpinned by a philosophy to help them develop a love of science as part of their co-curricular activities.
The eighty students from Sekolah Kebangsaan La Salle and Sekolah Kebangsaan Jenis Cina Puay Chai selected for the inaugural visit clearly had an exciting time as evidenced by the smiles and a programme has been developed to ensure that students from all other participating schools will get the opportunity to visit the centre during the year.
During their visits to the simulator centre, students will participate using the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) approach in the various discipline areas including flight simulation, engineering and cabin operations. AACE is the leading one-stop training centre in providing specialised aviation related training services within the ASEAN region and has trained all of AirAsia’s workforce. AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes believes that through this CSR program with AstroX, they will be able to inspire and inculcate a sense of interest for science, aviation in particular, amongst the students who will be visiting AACE.
AACE is a joint-venture between CAE Inc of Canada (CAE) and AirAsia. The world-class training centre caters for various aviation related services including jet pilot training, aircraft maintenance engineering training for Airbus, as well as flight attendant, guest services, ramp services and professional development training. They also specialise in safety and handling of dangerous goods training and aviation management. AACE holds regulatory approvals from National Aviation Authorities of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia, Japan, Dubai, Cambodia, Vietnam, South Korea, Myanmar, Sri Lanka among others.
