Batik Air has announced the launch of its latest route which lets you fly direct to Miri from Kuala Lumpur, making it easier than ever to explore this vibrant city. This marks Batik Air’s fourth destination in Sarawak, joining Kuching, Sibu, and Bintulu, and highlights the airline’s commitment to boosting connectivity across East Malaysia.
Fly Direct to Miri
The Kuala Lumpur–Miri service operates 14 times weekly, with twice-daily flights on Batik Air’s Boeing 737 aircraft, offering both Economy and Business Class options.
Miri, known as the ‘Resort City,’ is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Gunung Mulu National Park and Niah National Park. Adventure seekers will love the limestone caves, ancient rainforests, and unique wildlife and visitors can also enjoy cultural spots like the Tamu Muhibbah Market, famous for its lively atmosphere and traditional crafts.
The inaugural flight was celebrated with a lively welcoming ceremony at Miri Airport (MYY), where passengers were greeted with traditional bead garlanding, courtesy of the Sarawak Tourism Board, showcasing Sarawak’s rich heritage and warm hospitality. The event was graced by notable guests, including Sarawak’s Minister of Transport, YB Lee Kim Shin, Miri Mayor YB Adam Yii Siew Sang and Miri Member of Parliament YB Chiew Choon Man.
Aside from being a top tourist destination, Miri is also a key player in Malaysia’s oil and gas industry, making it an important hub for both leisure and business travellers. This new route is a significant addition to Batik Air’s network, offering more opportunities for exploration and connection.
Batik Air CEO, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, emphasised the airline’s dedication to connecting Malaysia’s diverse cities and supporting Sarawak’s growth.

Sarawak Transport Minister, Lee Kim Shin, highlighted the improved accessibility this new route brings with two daily flights, noting the increasing demand for travel between Kuala Lumpur and Miri, adding that the service strengthens Miri’s role as a key regional hub.
The Sarawak Tourism Board noted that Miri welcomed over 1.1 million tourists in 2024, a 51% increase from the previous year so this new direct service will further enhance accessibility to one of East Malaysia’s fastest-growing destinations.

Similarly, Tourism Malaysia Director General Manoharan Periasamy welcomed the new route, calling it a milestone in strengthening connectivity and supporting Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
