In conjunction with the launch, AirAsia has offered a few interesting facts about the new destinations, which highlight their special attractions:

Visakhapatnam, or better known as Vizag, is also affectionately referred to as ‘The Jewel of the East Coast’ and the ‘City of Destiny’ in India. Aptly named with its unspoilt stretch of sandy beaches and well-maintained parks, it provides scenic experiences for visitors.

The ‘City on the Equator’ – Pontianak, lies on the banks of the Kapuas, Indonesia’s longest and largest river and recognised as one of the longest rivers in the world. Among the famous attractions in Pontianak is the Equator Monument, founded in 1928 to mark the exact spot of the globe’s Equator. Pontianak offers a unique occurrence twice a year, where visitors will be awed by the ‘shadowless sunlight’ on every Vernal Equinox (in the month of March) and Autumnal Equinox (in the month of September). This event is celebrated in Pontianak where visitors can enjoy a shadowless moment for about five minutes during each occurrence.
