Malaysian Breakfast

Do you fancy a good Malaysian Breakfast? Santan, AirAsia’s food and beverage (F&B) brand under Capital A,  already has their signature Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak and Uncle Chin’s Chicken rice in the lineup, but now they’ve gone a step further. They’ve added a new line-up of delicious, nostalgia-inspired menu items familiar to all Malaysians, ready for the Merdeka month of August.

Is this your Malaysian Breakfast?

These new items are part of Santan’s regular quarterly menu refresh, which takes place every three months. The latest range is now available on all AirAsia and AirAsia X flights, with continuation guided by guest feedback and demand.

We’re really interested to see how they manage with this writer’s favourite, Kaya Butter Coconut Toast, a first-of-its-kind inflight offering and as we have an upcoming flight, we’re eager to try this one out. Asam Boi is another firm favourite. This preserved plum ingredient is popular across Malaysia and the Asean region and gives a lift to your drink.

Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak Light (Nasi lemak Bungkus) also makes the list and the ZERO Teh Tarik Kaw Kaw promises to deliver the full-bodied kaw taste (It will wake you up!) with 70% less sugar.

The new Menu Highlights include

  • Kaya Butter Coconut Toast
    • Coconut milk-infused bread, pandan kaya, and premium salted butter
    • Combo price: RM12 on AirAsia (AK),  RM17 on AirAsia X (D7)
  • Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak Light (Nasi Lemak Bungkus)
    • A compact version of the signature dish, wrapped in banana leaf
    • RM12 (Combo) Available on AirAsia (AK) flights only
  • ZERO Teh Tarik Kaw Kaw (70% less sugar)
    • Made with zero-calorie sugar, but retaining the strong, rich flavour Malaysians prefer

    • RM10 (Ala carte) on AirAsia X (D7)
  • ZERO Calorie Asam Boi (in collaboration with ZUS Coffee)
    • RM12 (Ala carte) on AirAsia (AK)
    • RM13 (Ala carte) on AirAsia X (D7)
  • ZERO Asam Jasmine Tea

Passengers who purchase a Santan Combo meal can add on the ‘Snek Box Kita’ for just RM3, a trio of popular local snacks: Toasted Coconut Biscuit, Muruku, and Pineapple Tart, bringing the flavours of a Malaysian childhood to the skies.

…. In conjunction with the upcoming Bulan Kemerdekaan, this new range pays tribute to the nostalgic flavours that represent who we are as a country – rich in culture, heritage, and diversity.Catherine Goh, Santan CEO

She added:

…. We see strong potential in the snack segment, and with this launch, we’re targeting up to 10% contribution to our overall sales this year. As a brand that has grown from inflight meals to ground retail, this marks another exciting step in making Malaysian favourites part of everyday moments – both in the air and on the ground.

Santan’s Club ZERO range was launched last year by the Minister of Health, in response to the growing demand for reduced-sugar options without compromising on flavour. To achieve this, approved zero-calorie sugar substitutes with no aspartame, to offer healthier but satisfying  choices.

Club ZERO features popular beverages such as the ZERO Pistachio Coconut Latte, and has recently expanded to include Santan’s ‘OG Burnt Cheesecake’, a lower-sugar version of their signature cheesecake with 50% less sugar.

Combo meals

Combo meals prices start at RM7.90, inclusive of a drink. Passengers may also upgrade their drink by topping up RM2 to enjoy the ZERO Pistachio Coconut Latte, now a viral favourite, or their signature Santan Latte.
