Malaysia Airlines Berhad has announced a strategic partnership with fashion brand FARAH KHAN and its creative director Dato’ Seri Dr Farah Khan in a move to re-energise the design aesthetic of the national carrier’s iconic kebaya and other uniforms. Through the partnership, Dato’ Seri Farah will design a uniform collection for the full range of uniforms of Malaysia Airlines, from flight deck to cabin crew, airport staff, engineering staff and all other uniformed sections.
…. Through its long and illustrious career as the national carrier, the Malaysia Airlines’ uniform, especially the kebaya, has served as an iconic symbol and a source of great pride for generations. The uniform serves as a symbol of the diverse and unique Asian values for which we’re known. With Dato’ Seri Farah’s talent and understanding of the fashion business, we look forward to taking this a step further, creating a fashionable and functional new collection, whilst remaining true to our roots which is Malaysian at the very heart. We are confident that with this collaboration, the new uniforms will continue to be a point of pride for Malaysians as well as mark the fresh new start of our transformation for all customers who fly with us each year. Known for her innovative designs, Dato’ Seri Farah’s brand of international glamour, available across more than 70 cities worldwide, pairs well with the new Malaysia Airlines. Dato’ Seri Farah will be personally involved throughout the project, and joins a host of internationally renowned designers who have contributed greatly to the aesthetic of a range of established airlines such as Gianfranco Ferré for Korean Airlines, Prabal Gurung for ANA, Martin Grant for Qantas and Vivienne Westwood for Virgin Atlantic.
….. Our clothes are a composite of many facets that fascinate my design team and me. The designs are a sum of our inspirations gathered near and far. We are moved by modern to yesteryear travels, from air aviation to steam travel, art, antiquities, design and architecture and we have dedicated entire collections to cities we admire. I am hugely excited about this partnership and the opportunity to make a positive impact in terms of the comprehensive look of cabin crew, ground staff and the rest of Team Malaysia Airlines. After all, a uniform is more than just apparel; it is a symbol of pride and honour that will transform its wearer. Our aim is to visually present the graciousness, warmth and hospitality that Malaysia is famous for. It is an honour to be a part of this initiative because I believe the national carrier is our pride and joy. We are looking forward to unveiling a brand new design aesthetic, refreshed with glamour and style; where form meets function. In the final analysis, this endeavour will not be limited to just staff uniforms but considers the finer details such as hair, make-up and the comprehensive visual presentation of the people behind the brand. At FARAH KHAN we share the same fundamental philosophy as Malaysia Airlines, that people, and the energy they bring, are the fundamental source of the success of any organisation: together we hope to inject new vigour into the individuals who will pilot Malaysia Airlines beyond its glory days. Dato’ Seri Farah
The time-frame is tight…
The project has been put on a fast track – the new collection is expected to be unveiled in the fourth quarter of 2016, with the new designs going into production soon after this.
During the development of the designs, Dato’ Seri Farah will work with Malaysia Airlines employees to better understand the specialised needs of the airline’s uniformed workforce, with the uniforms undergoing intensive wear testing to ensure both functionality and fit. The new uniform project is part of the airline’s rebuilding which covers all areas of the company’s operations and follows close on the heels of updated Economy menus and the introduction of a new Passenger Service System.
