Malaysia’s King, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, officially launched the new ETS3 Electric Train Service on Saturday 23rd August at Kuala Lumpur Station and later officiated at the opening of the Mahkota Rail Land in Kluang. Both events mark notable achievements in the development of modern infrastructure in the country and the transformation of the country’s urban landscape.

The Electric Train Service ETS3: A new era
The launch ceremony of ETS3 took place at at 7.40 am. This new generation train is equipped with modern technology with an operating speed of up to 140 km/h, making it one of the fastest electric passenger trains currently operating in Malaysia.
With its aerodynamic design, the latest international-class safety systems and modern comfort, ETS3 is expected to enhance riders’ travel experience. It also strengthens the rail mobility network in Peninsular Malaysia, in particular the route between Kuala Lumpur and major destinations in the south of the country including Kluang, Johor.
At the launch ceremony, the YB Minister of Transport, Loke Siew Fook, announced that the ETS3 service will commence operations on 30th August 2025, on the KL Sentral–Kluang–KL Sentral route. Mahkota Railway Station
Following the launch of ETS3, His Majesty travelled to Kluang to officiate the launch of Mahkota Railway Station, an iconic 2.8-kilometre public park developed under the Gemas–Johor Bahru Electric Double Track Project (GJBEDTP) viaduct.

The Mahkota Railway Station maintains the original identity of the Kluang Railway Heritage Linear Park, featuring historic elements such as old signs, tracks and pedestrian bridges. The space has also been transformed with modern elements including green landscaping, community art, family-friendly facilities and interactive digital features based on QR codes.
The new Kluang Railway Station as part of this project is also equipped with modern facilities including 110 car parking spaces and 63 motorcycle parking spaces, bus parking, 2 special parking spaces for the disabled, elevators, escalators, toilets, surau, waiting areas, ticket counters, ticket machines and food outlets, to cater for all visitors.

Railway Assets Corporation CEO, Azhar Ahmad, said the next phase will enrich the Mahkota Railway Yard as a cultural, entrepreneurial and community centre, including the construction of a heritage gallery and art landscape. The upcoming Sarong 2025 Train on 13th September 2025, is among main events to mark in your calendar.
The Mahkota Railway Yard, which will be officially opened on Monday, 25th August 2025, is open to the public every day from 6.00 am to 9.00 pm.
