From May 15 2017, Jetstar is changing its policy for infants travelling on a parent’s lap. Until May 15, infants under the age of two could travel on a lap for free. However, for all new bookings, a one-way journey fee will now apply.
[table style=”table-condensed”]JQ flight type | Fee per one way journey |
Domestic flights in Australia | AUD 30 |
Domestic flights in New Zealand | FREE |
Short haul international & Trans-Tasman flights | AUD/NZD 50 |
Long haul international flights | AUD 50 |
The fee for infants is charged per journey, so if you have multiple legs on the same booking, you will only be charged for the dominant leg of the journey. For example, if you are flying from Brisbane to Singapore via Melbourne, you will be charged AUD 50.
If you booked your flight before 15 May 2017 will not be affected by this change. Domestic flights within New Zealand and Japan are also exempted from this charge. Similarly, on codeshare flights infants on laps will continue to fly for free.
Infant luggage policy remains
Jetstar’s infant luggage policy remains the same. Infants that do not occupy a seat are not entitled to any cabin baggage allowance. However up to four items can be checked in free of charge, regardless of fare or being oversized and in addition to any checked-baggage allowance. Infant items that can be checked in include a pram, stroller, portable cot or high chair.
