After flying to Tawau recently from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), it’s good to hear that Batik Air has added a new Subang to Sabah connection, introducing a new direct route from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, to Kota Kinabalu, with a convenient onward connection to Tawau. This new route offers seamless travel within Sabah from Kuala Lumpur’s ‘city airport’.
Subang to Sabah
The new daily service, starting on 17th January, 2025, offers a streamlined travel experience from Subang (SZB), providing a preferred alternative for those wishing to avoid the busier and more distant KLIA. The service also benefits Sabahans wishing to travel between Kota Kinabalu and Tawau. A journey which takes around eight hours by road, can now be completed in just under an hour by air.
Batik Air CEO, Chandran Rama Muthy, said that this new service is the airline’s third destination from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport Subang and it opens up more travel opportunities for both tourists and business travellers.
…. With the launch of this new direct route, we are not just offering an alternative to KLIA, but we are tapping into the growing demand for seamless connectivity within East Malaysia.
He also noted that it makes it easier to explore the natural beauty, cultural diversity, and thriving business environments of Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
Chandran Rama Muthy further added that in 2023 alone, the Kota Kinabalu and Tawau airports collectively handled over 3.5 million passengers and are expected to reach 4 million by the end of 2024. This new route is designed to ease congestion at KLIA while meeting the increasing demand for direct connections within the region.
With seven flights weekly, the SZB-BKI-TWU route strikes the perfect balance of convenience, comfort, and frequency, ensuring Klang Valley residents can enjoy a smooth journey to both Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
