If you’ve been reading about fires in aircraft recently and the safety concerns regarding power banks on board flights, they’ve long been on the list of batteries and similar items you can’t check-in when you travel. Batik Air Malaysia has recently updated their policy on carrying these items. It goes into effect immediately.

Can I carry power banks on board?

Batik Air has introduced these extra onboard safety measures to update those already in place. The power banks in the picture above show the one on the left is marker 20,000mAh, the one on the right is 10,000mAh. Make sure you check your units before you arrive at the counter for inspection. They should also be in good condition. This is their statement in full.

“Effective immediately, passengers may carry a maximum of two (2) power banks, which must be kept On-Person, at all times and must not be placed in Carry-on Baggage. Power banks remain strictly prohibited in Checked Baggage on all Batik Air flights.”

“However, for enhanced safety, the use of power banks inside the cabin is strictly prohibited. Passengers are also advised to exercise caution when carrying auto-magnet charge power banks, as these may pose additional risks.”

“In compliance with International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations, power banks carried onboard must not exceed 100 watt-hours (Wh) or 20,000 milliampere-hours (mAh).”

“Safety reminders will be prominently displayed at check-in counters and reinforced through boarding announcements and in-flight briefings to ensure smooth implementation. Check-in staff will also inspect power banks before boarding to confirm they are in good condition and meet the required watt-hour (Wh) limitations.”

“Batik Air remains committed to upholding the highest safety standards while ensuring a seamless travel experience. The airline appreciates passengers’ cooperation in adhering to this updated policy, which aligns with industry best practices to enhance in-flight safety measures.
