Batik Air has announced a new flight route between Penang International Airport (PEN) and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Jakarta, starting on 1st October, 2024. This daily service will make it easier for both business and leisure travellers to fly from Penang to Jakarta and return on the same day.

…. This new route makes it easier for Indonesian visitors seeking medical treatment, offering a smooth and convenient journey to excellent healthcare. With direct flights to Penang, patients can reach their destination easily without having to deal with multiple connections.Chandran Rama Muthy
Penang is not just about healthcare; it’s rich in culture and leisure activities. Visitors can explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of George Town, enjoy delicious street food, or relax on Batu Ferringhi’s beautiful beaches.
Chandran noted the potential of this direct Penang-Jakarta route, pointing out that in 2023, over 160,000 Indonesian tourists visited Penang. This shows that Indonesia is an important market, with many young professionals and families attracted to Penang’s cultural heritage, festivals, and food.
Known as the ‘Pearl of the Orient,’ Penang offers a mix of Eastern and Western influences. Travellers can wander through George Town’s lively streets, enjoy stunning views from Penang Hill, or visit various religious sites like temples and mosques. The island’s vibrant arts scene and festivals enhance its appeal as a travel destination.
Last year, Penang International Airport welcomed tourists from over 40 countries, with Indonesia leading the way with 163,187 visitors. This is more than double the visitors from Singapore, Taiwan, and China.
The new Penang-Jakarta route will be operated using Batik Air’s Boeing 737 aircraft, featuring a dual-class setup. The flight schedule is designed to accommodate medical tourists, as well as business and leisure travellers, ensuring a comfortable journey.
