It was easy to see the pleasure on the face of AirAsia founder Tony Fernandes as he spoke at the launch of AirAsia’s services from Subang SkyPark to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching due to start at the end of August. He spoke of how ‘AirAsia comes home’ to what was then called Subang Airport Terminal 3, when they started with two aircraft in December 2001. Those two B737 aircraft have now become 260 Airbus aircraft and their staff have grown to around 14,000.
He also explained that due to current limitations posed by the infrastructure, services from Subang are limited and must be shared between the airlines. With 28 round trips per week, AirAsia will offer the most connections and expects a load factor of around 85% on these two popular routes due to take off on 30th August 2024.
AirAsia comes home with Promo fares
In conjunction with the launch, AirAsia is offering promotional fares for all-in* one-way flights from Subang to Kuching starting from RM88 and all-in* one-way to Kota Kinabalu from RM99. These fares are inclusive of complimentary** 15kg checked-in baggage allowance.
The promotional fares are available for booking on AirAsia MOVE app (previously known as airasia Superapp) and airasia.com until 28th July 2024 for travel between 30th August 2024 and 8th Oct 2025.
*The promotional all-in one way fare is inclusive of airport taxes, MAVCOM fees, fuel surcharges, and other applicable fees. Other terms and conditions apply.
**The complimentary baggage allowance is applicable only for the promotional fares during the booking period. Other terms and conditions apply.
This expansion complements AirAsia’s operations at its main hub at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA Terminal 2) and will provide travellers both additional connectivity and a more convenient option due to its vicinity to the city.
…. Subang Airport holds a special place in my heart, and it is exciting to witness its resurgence as one of the key players in Malaysia’s aviation landscape.
…….. AirAsia’s homecoming to Subang Airport is not just nostalgic but also strategic. Capital A’s engineering arm, Asia Digital Engineering (ADE), has operations based there, enhancing the efficiency and streamlining of our aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities.Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A, Advisor and Steward of AirAsia Aviation Group
He also flagged the possible introduction of a new product, “AirAsia Plus” out of Subang, aimed largely at business travellers, which may include a meal and luggage. The appeal would also be the time saved getting to the airport and the ease of reaching the aircraft, justifying an additional fare cost.
