AirAsia adds another Asean destination when direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Chiang Rai, Thailand begin on 31st January 2019. AirAsia Thailand (carrier code FD) will operate the four times weekly service on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
This is the first of four direct routes out of Chiang Rai. The start dates of services to Phuket, Singapore and Macao will be announced soon. AirAsia is seeking to build Chiang Rai into a northern Thailand hub to spur both tourism and investment.
….. Chiang Rai has both the capacity and potential for tourism growth with its unique art and culture as well as beautiful natural scenery. With attractions such as Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple, Baan Dam Museum, Rong Seur Ten Temple, Mae Fah Luang Garden and Doi Tung Royal Palace, the province caters to a variety of travel styles while being capable of accommodating a high volume of visitors. AirAsia Thailand CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya
Santisuk Klongchaiya also made reference to the recent cave rescue of the young footballers from Tham Luang Cave which gained worldwide attention. This has put the province in the world’s eye and it is well positioned to attract tourists and investors.
