AirAsia has set up a collaboration with Google Cloud to become a travel technology company. This covers the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI) across AirAsia’s business and culture, in its transformation into a travel technology company.
Working with Google Cloud
AirAsia will work with Google Cloud to solve high-impact business challenges, including:
- Driving better demand forecasting
- more targeted marketing
- Improve customer experience and loyalty
- provides a more personalised experience for customers
- Maximise operational efficiency and reduce risk through
- predictive maintenance
- real-time weather forecasting
- crew optimisation
The collaboration opens up a number of significant opportunities. AirAsia’s technical team will work with Google Cloud engineers, using Google Cloud’s state-of-the-art TensorFlow and Cloud Machine Learning Engine. This enables the airline’s technical teams to solve specific business scenarios as they gain a solid foundation in AI. Additionally, AirAsia can enroll its technical teams in the same programme Google Cloud uses to train its engineers. This allows the airline to build on its own internal machine learning expertise.
AirAsia will also work closely with Google Cloud to digitalise and transform its work systems and culture by deploying G Suite and Chrome Enterprise. This will create an agile digital experience providing access to data and analysis on demand for faster, more informed decision-making.
….. AirAsia has been at the forefront of adopting new digital technologies since our inception in 2001. We are now in our next phase of development where we are expanding beyond air transport and digitalising our operations and processes to become more efficient. AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes

- flights
- accommodation
- tours
- ground transport
- entertainment
BigLife, their lifestyle site, described as being like Kayak, Tripadvisor, Groupon and eBay rolled into one.
BigLife will incorporate all the digital investments under digital arm RedBeat Ventures, including
- money app BigPay
- inflight connectivity platform ROKKI
- online marketplace Ourshop
- logistics services RedBox and RedCargo
He expects that both platforms will help drive much more business into AirAsia with the help of data.
