An aircraft delivery delay affecting Malaysia Airlines first A330neo aircraft will not affect schedules, according to the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG). Originally scheduled for delivery in September 2024, the aircraft is now expected to arrive by late November.

Aircraft delivery delays affecting airlines

Many airlines have been impacted by the current shortage of new aircraft post pandemic although there are many factors involved. In this case, the delay has been caused due to findings identified by Airbus during the flight line stage.

As a result of this unexpected delay, the airline has announced that Malaysia Airlines’ planned inaugural A330neo flight to Melbourne on 25th November 2024, as well as subsequent flights scheduled with the A330neo, will be impacted. These services will be operated the A330-300, with no changes to the flight schedule.

MAG is working closely with Airbus and its lessor, Avolon, to confirm a new delivery timeline
and expedite the aircraft’s entry into service. This is expected to be bolstered by the arrival of five A330neo aircraft in Q1 2025.
With aircraft delivery delays also affecting Boeing, MAG has also been affected while awaiting the arrival of its remaining Boeing 737-8s. The Group is in communication with Boeing and its lessor AirLease Corp, to closely monitor the evolving situation.

…. We are deeply disappointed by the aircraft delivery delays by Airbus, compounded by the ongoing setbacks of our Boeing 737-8 deliveries. These delays are significantly disrupting our fleet modernisation plans and growth requirements.Captain Izham Ismail, MAG Group Managing Director

He added that the Group is taking decisive steps toward a stronger 2025 and having the necessary assets in place is crucial to meet their growth targets, optimise the network and continue delivering enhanced services to their customers.
