Tokyo non-stop from Brisbane on Qantas

December 9, 20142 minute read

If you’re waiting for the opportunity to fly Qantas non-stop to Tokyo Haneda or Narita, the airline announced on 9th December that they have expanded service to Japan with these flights on offer from August 2015.  The new direct Brisbane-Narita service will operate four times a week and complement a new daily Sydney-Haneda direct service, currently awaiting regulatory approval.

Plans are also under way to fly to Narita on three alternate days from another Australian port, thus Qantas will offer double daily services to Japan.

The new flights were announced at the Qantas Brisbane’s Heavy Maintenance Facility by Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce and Queensland Premier Campbell Newman when they inspected work on the first of 28 Airbus A330s to be fitted with new class – leading interiors. (for information on the new seats and interiors, here) The flights will utilise  B747  aircraft to Haneda and the upgraded A330s to Narita and will see Qantas add more than 4,000 seats per week across 14 return flights between Australia and Japan.

Passengers should be pleased that Qantas have obtained peak time slots for the daily Sydney to Haneda flights which will be overnighters. This will be especially attractive to business travellers given the growing links following the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Australia and Japan and in light of a 17% growth in departures from Australia to Japan over the past year.

The four flights per week between Brisbane and Narita are scheduled to leave in the late morning arriving in the early evening, with the return flight arriving in Brisbane at 6.55 the next morning.

Fares for the new Brisbane-Narita service and Sydney-Haneda service will be available for sale from later this week, for travel from 1st August 2015 and 31st July 2015 respectively. However, to celebrate the launch of non-stop services between Brisbane and Narita, Qantas will be offering sale fares starting from $899 return from 12 December to 22 December 2014 for travel from 1 August 2015. on the Qantas website.

Qantas and Jetstar currently offer one or two stop flights to Haneda, Narita and Kansai in Japan from Cairns, Melbourne and Gold Coast.
