Malindo Air flies Kuala Lumpur to Sanya via Penang

Malindo Air’s Boeing 737NG took off to the skies for its inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sanya, China via Penang on 20th December 2015. Flights, which will initially take off twice a week every Thursday and Sunday, are expected to be increased gradually to four times weekly. This new route in to Sanya is the first into the China market, the tenth country in the airline’s growing international route network.

Sanya is a popular tourist destination at the southern end of the island of Hainan in Southern China. The area has several bays with a number of large beach resorts. While Yalong Bay is best known for its upmarket hotels, Wuzhizhou Island is the place to go for scuba diving around its coral reefs as well as surfing and other water sports. Many tourists visit the Nanshan Temple complex which features a huge Guan Yin bronze statue on a man-made island.

There is no time difference between Malaysia and Sanya, with a flight time between Penang and Sanya of just under three hours. The Thursday flights are evening flights, arriving very early the next morning, but the Sunday flights depart Kuala Lumpur in the morning, returning the same afternoon.
