AirAsia X commences flights into Sapporo-Shin-Chitose, Japan

AirAsia X celebrated its inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sapporo, landing in their third destination in Japan on 2nd October 2015.

In conjunction with the launch and just in time for the upcoming ski season, AirAsia X is offering promotional all-in, one-way fares from RM349. The promo fares are available for online booking until 18 October 2015 for travel between 2nd October 2015 and 3rd January 2016.

Your flight will take you into the New Chitose Airport, in the city of Chitose, about 50km from Sapporo, capital of the mountainous northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. There are many remnants of the 1972 Winter Olympics around the city with ski hills and jumps dotted throughout. Niseko, a well known ski resort, is nearby.

The Airport is well connected by public transport with regular rapid trains taking around 40 minutes from airport to city. Catch the train at the Airport and it will take you directly to Sapporo. An airport shuttle bus which services all hotels in Sapporo operates every day and if you are travelling to a ski resort, the Skybus provides transport to and from various ski resorts throughout Hokkaido, including Niseko.

In this city of festivals, perhaps the best known is the Sapporo Yuki Matsuri, centered around Odori Park, Susukino and Tsudome. The festival, held every February is often referred to internationally as the Sapporo Snow Festival and attracts around two million tourists from all over the world. Spring (There’s a Lilac Festival) and Summer (Plenty of choice in the warmer months!) are also great times to visit and there’s even a Christmas market in December.

The city is also home to Sapporo Brewery and  is reputedly the birthplace of miso ramen. Another tasty treat that travellers often pack into their bags to take home is a white chocolate filled biscuit (they also make milk chocolate) known as Shiroi Koibito.
